About Tabby Studio Residency

Tabby Studio is an open-ended weaving-focused residency opportunity.

Residents live on-site in a 1B1B apartment including a full kitchen connected to the weaving studio.

Instruction varies on the type of residency, from daily one-on-one lessons, to total independent studio time. This residency is meant to be tailored to each weaver, and it is our intention to accommodate diverse projects, artists, and goals. There is one resident per session.

There are three options for residencies, with a local artist option as well:

Weaving 101:

$400 - $800 per week sliding scale
Monday-Friday 9A-3P one-on-one instruction. This residency is ideal for folks wanting to start their own weaving practice. The two week course will cover the basics of yarn selection, warping, loom mechanics, and introductory to intermediate weaving techniques. Residents can expect to leave with one large sampler.

Project-Based Residency:

$500 - $900 per week sliding scale
Monday-Friday 9A-3P one-on-one instruction. This residency is ideal for folks who intend to complete a project in residence, rather than learn all the basics of the loom. Possible ideas could include a coverlet, baby blanket, yardage for garment construction, wall hanging, or rug. Timing for this residency is based on the discretion of the instructor.

Independent Residency:

$300 - $500 per week sliding scale
This residency is ideal for seasoned weavers who simply need time, space, and solitude to work. Optional meetings with Kimberly including studio visits and family dinners are available upon request. Residents must provide examples of woven work in order to be considered for an Independent Residency.

Payment

Please see the sliding scale amount above for your desired residency. Tiers of the scale are laid out on our 2025 application.

Partial payment (half of residency fee) will be due at time of booking (once you receive an official acceptance email and confirm dates, submit waiver, and contract) and the other half will be due a week before your residency. If you would like to request a more flexible payment schedule, please email us at tabbystudiownc@gmail.com.

Travel

Please plan to rent a car or provide your own means of transportation while in residence. If there are extenuating circumstances that prevent you from driving safely or restrict you from renting a car, please contact us.
